Billy Dowling is a professionalAustralian rules footballer who was selected by theAdelaide Football Club as the number 43 pick in the2022 AFL draft.[1] He previously played forNorth Adelaide in theSANFL at amateur level.
Dowling was picked up byAdelaide at pick number 43 in the2022 national draft from theNorth Adelaide Football Club.[1]
Dowling shone bright in theSANFL forAdelaide, but struggled to move forward into the senior side due to the strong midfield group ofJordan Dawson,Rory Laird, andMatt Crouch. In July 2023, Dowling added to his rookie contract by signing on until the end of 2026.[2]
After an impressive run of form, and an injury to fellow on-ballerMatt Crouch,[3] Dowling's long-awaited debut was announced on 4 June 2024, two days prior toAdelaide'sround 13 game againstRichmond at theAdelaide Oval.[4] Dowling debuted with 17 disposals, 1 goal, and 9 marks, to finish as the sixth-highest rated Crow of the night (according to AFL Fantasy)[5] in a disheartening loss for the club.[6] AfterDan Curtin, Dowling was the second Crow to make theirAFL debut in 2024.
