William James Clayson (12 July 1897 – 1973) was an English professionalfootballer who played as aninside right in theFootball League forBrentford,Crewe Alexandra,Barnsley,Chesterfield,Torquay United andYork City.[1][3] He was a prolific goalscorer forScarborough across three spells with the club in theMidland League.[4][5]

Personal life

Prior to becoming a professional footballer, Clayson served in theBritish Army and later became a publican inScarborough.[6]
