John William Demory Sr. (December 1, 1950 – February 14, 2025) was an American professionalfootball player who was aquarterback for theNew York Jets of theNational Football League (NFL). He playedcollege football for theArizona Wildcats. After his football career, he became an economics professor atCentral Arizona College.
Demory attended theUniversity of Arizona and played for theWildcats before playing for theNew York Jets of the NFL,[1] for whom he started three games in weeks 5-7 of the 1973 season.[2] In Demory's three starts, the Jets beat theNew England Patriots, though Demory was only 1 for 7 on passing, and nonetheless received praise from coachWeeb Ewbank and the Jets' top quarterbackJoe Namath,[3][4][5] and lost to thePittsburgh Steelers and theDenver Broncos.
After football, Demory went to graduate school, receiving anM.B.A. from theUniversity of Iowa and anM.A. in Economics and Entrepreneurship for Educators from theUniversity of Delaware.[6] He was a professor of economics atCentral Arizona College.[2]
Demory died from prostate cancer andParkinson's disease on February 14, 2025, at the age of 74.[7]
