William James Cox (1880 – 6 November 1915) was an English professionalfootballer who played as acentre forward inthe Football League forBury andLeicester Fosse.[1][4]

Personal life

Cox was the younger brother ofEngland international forwardJack Cox.[5] After retiring from football, he became astonemason inBlackpool.[6] Cox served as aprivate in theKing's Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster) atGallipoli during theFirst World War.[3][7] During the campaign, he suffered a leg wound and contracted fataldysentery.[5] Cox died in hospital inBirmingham on 6 November 1915.[5] He was buried inLayton Cemetery, Blackpool.[2]
