Bighoto is a tract of country starting fromDelhi territory, fromRewari on the borders ofMewat to theBikaner frontier and was dominated byRajputs.[1]

Etymology

The name of Bighoto, or Bighota as it is sometimes called, is derived from Bigha Raj Chauhan, a descendant ofPrithviraj Chauhan.[2]

In the neighborhood of Bighoto existed the territories ofDhundhoti,Rath and Chandain. Bighoto region, established by and named after Bigha Raj Chauhan, was an area of 12 villages including greater part ofTaoru that were collectively known as Chandain, remained under the Chand Chauhans, descendants of Sahesh Mal Chauhan. According to SirHenry Miers Elliot, Bighoto includedRewari,Kot Kasim,Bawal, Kanon,Pataudi,Kotkasim, and a great part of theBahraichjagir.[3] Sahesh Mal was a son of RajaSangat Singh Chauhan. Sangat was the great grandson of Chahir Deo Chauhan, brother of famous rajput kingPrithviraj Chauhan.[4]

A popular saying isBaghoto ko du dhāni Khoroaur Chauhan; "Bighoto has two lords,Khoros, and Chauhans."[5]
