Bidjara (Bulloo River)

TheBidjara people, also speltBitjara orBithara, are anAboriginal Australian people of south-westernQueensland. They spoke a dialect of theNgura language.[1] They are not to be confused with theWarrego River Pitjara or theBadjiri of theParoo River, both of whose traditional lands are further to the east of the state.

Norman Tindale estimated their lands as encompassing approximately 4,000 square miles (10,000 km2), centered aroundBulloo Downs, south to the south toBulloo Lake floodplain. Their western border lay at theGrey Range. Their northern limits were at Orient, and their eastern frontier was around Clyde.[2]

The Bitjara included circumcision in their initiatory rites.
