Bhupen Kumar Borah (born 30 October 1970) is a formerIndian National Congress politician[3] fromAssam and former president of theAssam Pradesh Congress Committee from 2021 to 2024.[1][4][5][6][7][8] He served two-terms as amember of theAssam Legislative Assembly representingBihpuria from 2006 to 2016.[9]

Early life

Bhupen Borah was born on 30 October 1970 in Pohumora,Lakhimpur,Assam.[10] He graduated fromNorth Lakhimpur College andDibrugarh University.[9][10] He was vice-president of North Lakhimpur College Students' Union and general secretary of Dibrugarh University Postgraduate Students' Union.[9][10]

Political career

Borah was president of theAssam Pradesh Youth Congress.[10] He was elected to theAssam Legislative Assembly fromBihpuria in 2006, and re-elected in 2011.[10] He was a spokesperson and parliamentary secretary for theGovernment of Assam duringTarun Gogoi’s tenure asChief Minister.[10][11] In 2013, he was appointed a secretary of theAll India Congress Committee.[11] In 2021, he was appointed president of theAssam Pradesh Congress Committee.[10]
