Bhateali, orBhattiyali, is aWestern Pahari language ofHimachal Pradesh in northern India. It Is spoken majorily in theBhattiyat division ofChamba,Dalhousie as well asNurpur division ofKangra and hilly parts ofPathankot district ofPunjab. The 2011 Indian Census counted 23,970 speakers,[1] of which 15,107 were found inChamba district ofHimachal Pradesh.[2]
Bhateali has sometimes been counted as a dialect of eitherKangri[3][4]. It is listed under Western Pahari languages group.
It was historically written using theTakri script.
