TheBezirk Rostock was adistrict (Bezirk) ofEast Germany. The administrative seat and the main town wasRostock.
The district was established, with the other 13, on 25 July 1952, substituting the oldGermanstates. After 3 October 1990 it was dissolved followingGerman reunification, becoming again part of the state ofMecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The Bezirk Rostock, the northernmost of DDR, was situated on the coast of theBaltic Sea, in front of theDanish coasts. It bordered with theBezirke ofSchwerin andNeubrandenburg. It bordered also withPoland andWest Germany.
TheBezirk was divided into 14Kreise: 4 urban districts (Stadtkreise) and 10 rural districts (Landkreise):
