Battowia orBettowia is one of theGrenadine islands which lie between the Caribbean islands ofSaint Vincent andGrenada.[2][3] Politically, it is part of the nation ofSaint Vincent and the Grenadines. It has been declared a Wildlife Reserve.[4]
Battowia is locally known as "Bird Island" as it is a roosting and nesting site for a variety of seabirds, includingfrigatebirds,gulls,boobies,brown pelicans,brown noddies andsooty terns. The island has been designated anImportant Bird Area (IBA) byBirdLife International because it is a key roosting and nesting site forseabirds.[5] Land birds includetropical mockingbirds,eared doves andAntillean crested hummingbirds.[6]
Other inhabitants aregoats and the rareBarbour's tropical racer.[7]
