TheBethel Mission, also known as Berlin III,Evangelische Missionsgesellschaft für Deutsch-Ostafrika (EMDOA),[1] orBerliner Evangelische Missionsgesellschaft für Ostafrika[2] was aBerlin-basedProtestantmission initiated byKarl Peters inGerman East Africa with auniert religious doctrine.[1] From its founding in 1886[3] until 1891 the mission was limited to theIndian Ocean coast; it was then led byFriedrich von Bodelschwingh, Senior of theBethel Institution.[1]
In October 1905 the society created Mkoma Mbuli (The Storyteller), aShambala monthly, which probably continued publication until 1914.[4]
