TheBest Male Tennis Player ESPY Award has been presented annually since1993 to theprofessionalmaletennis player adjudged to be the best in a givencalendar year.
Between 1993 and2004, the award voting panel comprised variouslyfans;sportswriters andbroadcasters, sportsexecutives, and retiredsportspersons, termed collectivelyexperts; andESPN personalities, but balloting thereafter has been exclusively by fans over theInternet from amongst choices selected by the ESPN Select Nominating Committee.
Through the2001 iteration of theESPY Awards, ceremonies were conducted in February of each year to honor achievements over the previous calendar year; awards presented thereafter are conferred in June and reflect performance from the June previous.[1] The award wasn't awarded in2020 due to theCOVID-19 pandemic.
Starting in 2023, the Best Male Tennis Player ESPY Award andBest Female Tennis Player ESPY Award were combined into one Best Tennis Player ESPY Award. TheESPY Award that year was presented toNovak Djokovic over finalistsCarlos Alcaraz,Aryna Sabalenka, andIga Świątek.
Roger Federer is the only male player to win the award eight and nine times.Pete Sampras, Federer, andNovak Djokovic are the only players to have won the award in consecutive seasons. Federer and Sampras have won the award six consecutive times, a record.
