Besano is a town andcomune located in theprovince of Varese, in theLombardy region of northernItaly.

The fossils of Besano

In 1993 thefossil of aTriassic aquaticreptile dating back to about 235 million years was found near the town. It was namedBesanosaurus. Many other fossils have emerged from thefossiliferous field of Besano-Monte San Giorgio, known and appreciated since the mid-nineteenth century.[3]
