Bertrand de Bar-sur-Aube (i.e. Bertrand fromBar-sur-Aube) (end of the 12th century – early 13th century[1]) was anOld Frenchpoet from theChampagne region[1] ofFrance who wrote a number ofchansons de geste. He is the author ofGirard de Vienne, and it is likely that he also wroteAymeri de Narbonne.[1] Thechansons de gesteNarbonnais andBeuve de Hantone have also been attributed to him, but these attributions are contested.[1] At the beginning ofGirart de Vienne, the author describes himself as a "clerc" orcleric.[1] No other biographical information is known about him.[1]
