Berenice (Ancient Greek:Βερενίκη,Bereníkē) is theAncient Macedonian form of theAttic Greek nameΦερενίκηPherenikē, which means "bearer of victory" from Ancient Greek φέρω (pherō) 'to bear' and νίκη (nikē) 'victory'.[1] Berenika, priestess ofDemeter inLete ca. 350 BC, is the oldest epigraphical evidence.[2][3] The Latin variantVeronica is a direct transliteration. The name also has the formBernice.
