Benmore Gardens is a suburb ofJohannesburg in theSandton area. It is located in Region E of theCity of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality.
In 1964, architectHarold Le Roith purchased one hundred acres in what became Benmore Gardens. He was to work with the architectRichard Neutra on realising a project to build a self-contained village centre with apartments, shops and offices. The project was inspired by Le Roith's visit toTapiola, a newly constructed town inFinland. Le Roith pulled out of the project after the completion of two apartment blocks.[2]
