Benjamin Mark Lasker Wallfisch (born 7 August 1979) is a British composer, conductor, and music producer known for his work on film scores. He has contributed to over 50 feature films since the mid-2000s, including notable works likeBlade Runner 2049 (2017),Shazam! (2019),It (2017),It Chapter Two (2019),The Invisible Man (2020),Hidden Figures,A Cure for Wellness (both 2016),The Flash (2023),Twisters,Alien: Romulus,Kraven the Hunter (from 2024), andThe Conjuring: Last Rites (2025). He additionally provided the score for two films in thePredator franchise, includingPredator: Killer of Killers andPredator: Badlands (both 2025).
His work has earned recognition including a joint nomination withPharrell Williams andHans Zimmer forBest Original Score at the74th Golden Globe Awards forHidden Figures, as well as nominations for theBAFTA Award for Best Film Music and theGrammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media forBlade Runner 2049. In 2020, Wallfisch was nominated for Film Composer of the Year for the second consecutive year at theWorld Soundtrack Awards.[1]
Wallfisch's film compositions have contributed to movies with a combined worldwidebox office revenue of over $2.5 billion.[2] In 2019,Variety acknowledged his achievements by including him in their Billion Dollar Composer series.[3]
Benjamin Mark Lasker Wallfisch was born on 7 August 1979 inLondon, England, toElizabeth Wallfisch (née Hunt), an AustralianBaroque violinist, andRaphael Wallfisch, a Britishcellist. He is the eldest of their three children. His paternal grandparents are pianistPeter Wallfisch and cellistAnita Lasker-Wallfisch, the latter of which was Holocaust survivor who, as a member of theWomen's Orchestra of Auschwitz, was saved from extermination, as cello players were hard to replace.[4] They wereJewish emigrants from the city ofBreslau, Germany (now Wrocław, Poland). His great-grandfather was conductorAlbert Coates.[citation needed]
Wallfisch has been nominated for multiple awards, including aGolden Globe Award, aBAFTA Award, twoGrammy Awards, and twoEmmy Awards. He composedAndy Muschietti'sIt,It Chapter Two,It: Welcome to Derry, andThe Flash,David F. Sandberg'sShazam!,Leigh Whannell'sThe Invisible Man, co-composedDenis Villeneuve'sBlade Runner 2049 with Hans Zimmer, and wrote the score forSimon McQuoid'sMortal Kombat forNew Line Cinema andWarner Bros.[5][6]

Wallfisch has released 25 albums and has performed over 100 live concerts worldwide, leading orchestras such as theLondon Philharmonic,Philharmonia,Los Angeles Philharmonic,Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and theSydney Symphony at venues including theHollywood Bowl,Sydney Opera House andRoyal Festival Hall. He has collaborated, recorded, and performed his music with artists includingLang Lang,Herbie Hancock andYuja Wang.[citation needed]
He has collaborated with Pharrell Williams three times, including a live performance at the2015 Grammy Awards, and he arrangedAdele's2017 Grammy Awards performance ofGeorge Michael's "Fastlove".[citation needed]
Wallfisch has been a member of theBAFTA Academy since 2009, was appointed an Associate of theRoyal Academy of Music in 2014, and was invited to join theAcademy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2017.[8]
