Benjamin Pedersen (born 11 May 1999) is a Danishracing driver who competes in theIMSA SportsCar Championship forPR1/Mathiasen Motorsports.[1] He previously raced in theIndyCar Series, driving the No. 55Chevrolet forA. J. Foyt Racing.[2]
Pedersen began hissingle-seater career in 2016, driving for the Leading Edge Grand Prix in cooperation with Global Racing Group, a team set up by his father, Christian Pedersen,[3][4][5] in theF4 United States Championship.[6] While he had a strong start with a podium finish atMid-Ohio, Pedersen ended up tenth in the drivers' standings.
For the 2017 season, Pedersen remained in theF4 US series, partnering with Justin Sirgany and Jacob Loomis at Global Racing Group.[7][8] This season yielded more success, as the Dane took podiums in the first two events[9] before ending the campaign on a particularly impressive note, winning twice in the penultimate round and once more at the season finale, held as part of the2017 United States Grand Prix weekend. These results led to Pedersen finishing fourth overall, beating both his teammates.[citation needed]
In 2018, Pedersen returned to tackle theF4 US Championship for the final time, where he won two victories, and placed fifth in the standings.[10][11]
Parallel to his F4 campaign, Pedersen competed in the inaugural season of theF3 Americas Championship.[12] Despite missing two events, Pedersen finished third overall, beaten by fellow GRG driverBaltazar Leguizamón.[13]
In 2019, Pedersen performed double duties in theF3 Americas andBRDC F3 championships, the latter becoming his first venture into European racing.[14][15] In the former, Pedersen won seven races, which included a triple of victories atSebring, which put him second in the standings.[16] Over in British F3, a victory in the reverse-grid race atSilverstone, coupled with a further podium inSnetterton, left the Dane 14th overall.[17]
An entire season of theBRDC British F3 Championship was on the cards for Pedersen in 2020, driving forDouble R Racing.[18] He ended the season ninth in the drivers' standings, taking three podiums and another win inSilvestone.[19]
Pedersen switched to theRoad to Indy ladder for 2021, driving for Global Racing Group inIndy Lights.[20] The season began with a second place atBarber, although he would fail to take any podiums throughout the following three rounds.[21] The Dane, who was racing under an American licence by this stage, bounced back with a podium appearance atRoad America before going on to experience a strong second half of the campaign, with four third-placed finishes elevating him to fourth overall.[22][23]
In 2022, Pedersen returned toIndy Lights for his sophomore season.[24][25] Having scored five podiums, which contained his first win in the category atPortland, Pedersen took fifth in the championship.[26]

Having tested forJuncos Hollinger Racing at the end of June,[27] it was announced that Pedersen would enter theIndyCar Series in 2023, driving for theA. J. Foyt Racing team alongsideSantino Ferrucci.[28][29] In his firstIndianapolis 500, Pedersen was namedRookie of the Year.[30]
Pedersen was born inCopenhagen, Denmark. At age four, his family emigrated to the United States, settling inSammamish, Washington.[31][32]
After joining A. J. Foyt Racing, Pedersen relocated toIndianapolis, Indiana, in 2022.[31]
