TheBeni Ahsen (Arabic:بني احسن,romanizedBanī Aḥsan) sometimes referred to as theBeni Hassan (Arabic:بني حسان,romanizedBanī Ḥassān) is aMoroccanArab tribe belonging to the biggerMaqil tribe located in the region surroundingRabat.[1][2][3]

History

The tribe settled in Morocco in the 12th century. Around the 16th century, they moved to theMissour and Almis area betweenTafilalt andFez.[3] In the 17th century, they advanced northwest to theSefrou region, in order to reach theMamoura Forest and the plain ofGharb. In the 18th century they were pushed more westwards by theAït Zemmour [fr] tribe, which moved up from the south. Today they are located in the region stretching fromSalé toSidi Slimane.[2]
