Belgachia East Assembly constituency was aLegislative Assembly constituency ofKolkata district in theIndian state ofWest Bengal .
As a consequence of the orders of theDelimitation Commission , Belgachia East Assembly constituency ceased to exist from 2011.[ 1]
It was part ofDum Dum (Lok Sabha constituency) .[ 2]
Members of the Legislative Assembly [ edit ] 1977-2009 Belgachia East [ edit ] In the by-election held in 2009 as a result of the death of the sitting MLASubhas Chakraborty ,Sujit Bose ofTrinamool Congress won the 139 Belgachia East seat defeating Ramala Chakrabarty ofCPI(M) .[ 3] [ 4] Subhas Chakrabarty of CPI(M) won the Belgachia East seat seven times in a row from 1977 to 2006. In2006 [ 5] and 2001,[ 6] he defeated Sujit Bose of Trinamool Congress. In 1996[ 7] he defeatedArunava Ghosh ofCongress . In 1991[ 8] and 1987,[ 9] he defeated Kumares Basu of Congress. In 1982[ 10] he defeated Shyamal Bhattacharjee of Congress. In 1977, he defeated Samir Chatterjee ofJanata Party .[ 11] [ 12]
1951-1972 Belgachia [ edit ] During the period there was only one seat for Belgachia. Ganapati Sur of Congress defeated Lakshmi Charan Sen of CPI(M) in 1972.[ 13] Lakshmi Charan Sen of CPI(M) defeated Ganapati Sur of Congress in 1971,[ 14] Suchit Kumar Sur of Congress in 1969[ 15] and Ganapati Sur of Congress in 1967.[ 16] Ganesh Ghosh ofCPI won the seat defeating Ganapati Sur of Congress in1962 ,[ 17] Nandalal Banerjee of Congress in1957 [ 18] and inindependent India's first election in 1951 defeating Sudhir Kumar De of Congress.[ 19]
