Belaya Kholunitsa (Russian:Бе́лая Холуни́ца) is atown and theadministrative center ofBelokholunitsky District inKirov Oblast,Russia, located on the riverBelaya Kholunitsa (Vyatka'stributary), 82 kilometers (51 mi) northeast ofKirov, the administrative center of theoblast. Population:11,232 (2010 Census);[3]11,975 (2002 Census);[7]13,367 (1989 Soviet census).[8]

It was previously known asKholunitsky,Belokholunitsky.

History

It was founded in 1764 due to the construction of anironworks as the settlement ofKholunitsky (Холуницкий).[2] It was later renamedBelokholunitsky (Белохолуницкий) when the river it stood on was renamed.[citation needed] It was granted town status in 1965.[citation needed]

Administrative and municipal status

Within theframework of administrative divisions, Belaya Kholunitsa serves as theadministrative center ofBelokholunitsky District.[1] As an administrative division, it is, together with ninerural localities, incorporated within Belokholunitsky District as theTown of Belaya Kholunitsa.[1] As amunicipal division, the Town of Belaya Kholunitsa is incorporated within Belokholunitsky Municipal District asBelokholunitskoye Urban Settlement.[4]

Economy

Industrial companies in the town include a load-and-carry equipment plant, twologging and twoforestry companies, awood processing and furniture-making plant, abread-making plant, among others.

There are deposits ofiron ore,clay,gravel,lime,rubble, andpeat in the town.
