Bećir Omeragić (born 20 January 2002) is a Swiss professionalfootballer who plays as adefender forLigue 2 clubMontpellier and theSwitzerland national team.
Omeragić made hisSwiss Super League debut forZürich on 4 May 2019 in a game againstBasel, as an 80th-minute substitute forAlain Nef.[1]
On 11 May 2023, following five years at Zürich, he signed withLigue 1 sideMontpellier HSC.[2]
Omeragić is a youth international for Switzerland.[3]In September 2020, he had called up to theSwitzerland squad forUEFA Nations League fixtures againstUkraine andGermany. He made his debut on 7 October 2020 in afriendly againstCroatia.[4]
In 2021, he was called up to the national team for the2020 UEFA European Championship, where the team created one of the main sensations of the tournament reaching the quarter-finals.[5]
Born in Switzerland toBosniak parents, his father hails fromDerventa and his mother hails fromPrijedor. His football idols areSergio Ramos,Thiago Silva andEmir Spahić.[6] He is the brother of footballerNedim Omeragić and cousin ofEdin Omeragić.[7]
