Junelie Otero Barrios (born on June 12, 1968, to parents ofManobo origin),[1] professionally known asBayang Barrios, is aFilipinapop musician and singer who hails fromBunawan, Agusan del Sur. She once downplayed her ethnic origins, until she met the songwriter-performerJoey Ayala and joined his band,Ang Bagong Lumad. Many of her known songs, especially those recorded with Ayala, utilized Filipino indigenous instruments. Her nickname, Bayang, originated from her consistent leadership in singing the Philippine national anthem, Lupang Hinirang.
In 2005, Barrios' composition "Isipin Mo Na Lang" penned with her husband Mike Villegas, played at the ending credits of the indie Filipino filmAng Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros. September 2013 saw the release of her fifthstudio album entitledMalaya.[2]
