TheBattle of Thiméon was aFrankish victory over theVikings nearThiméon (near modernCharleroi,Wallonia) north of theSambre in February 880.

In 879,Vikings from England settled on the riverScheldt. After celebratingChristmas atFrankfurt am Main that year and signing theTreaty of Ribemont withLouis III andCarloman II ofWest Francia,Louis the Younger ofEast Francia marched an army northward on the Viking settlement. The battle was a rout for the Vikings, 5,000 of whom were killed,[1] but the Frankish king also sustained a heavy loss: his only surviving son, the illegitimateHugh, was killed in action.[1]
