TheBattle of Sonipat was fought betweenSikhs and theMughal Empire in 1709. It was the first significant battle duringBanda Singh Bahadur's rebellion.
In 1708,Banda Singh Bahadur became theJathedar of theKhalsa Army and he was sent toPunjab byGuru Gobind Singh to fight against theMughal Empire.
Khanda, Sonipat village (Sehri Khanda) witnessed the Battle of Sonipat against theMughals and won the battle under the military leadership of Banda Singh Bahadur.[3][4] He first camped atKhanda village, with an army of 500, and then marched toSonipat, attacked the town, and threw an open challenge to the Mughal Empire.[5] The MughalFaujdar of Sonipat was utterly unprepared and he was routed[6] in the battle and was defeated.
TheSikhs then plundered the Provincial MughalTreasury and villages at Sonipat.[7]
After theSonipat conquest,Banda Singh Bahadur reachedSamana, Punjab and attacked the town. TheSikhs won the battle against theMughals in Samana.[8]
