Battalgazi, formerly and colloquiallyEskimalatya (Kurdish:Melediya kevn), is a municipality anddistrict ofMalatya Province,Turkey.[2] Its area is 947 km2,[3] and its population is 307,478 (2022).[1] At the2013 reorganisation part of the former central district of Malatya Province was added to the district.[4] It covers the eastern part of the agglomeration ofMalatya and the adjacent countryside. The mayor is Osman Güder (AKP).

The town center corresponds to the previous location of Malatya proper, at a distance of 20 km from the modern day urban center and provincial seat of Malatya. The town was renamed in honor ofBattal Gazi during theRepublican period.
