TheBatin orBatin Sembilan are a sub-group ofMalay people that inhabits the interior parts ofJambi province.[1]
There are approximately 72,000 Batin living in the interior of south-central Sumatra. They speak a dialect of theJambi variant ofMalay,[2] but the accent is similar toMinangkabau language.[3]
The Batin areMuslim, but have amatrilineal kinship system, which is similar to Minangkabau than to Jambi Malays.[4]
