TheBasa language, disambiguated asBasa-Benue, and also calledAbacha, Abatsa, ru-Basa, Rubassa, is aKainji language spoken in centralNigeria, in the vicinity ofBassa,Ankpa,Nasarawa,Gurara,Kwali andMakurdi.^[1] Blench (2008) notes thatBasa-Makurdi,Basa-Gurara andBasa-Kwali are separate varieties fromBasa-Kwomu orBasa-Komo of Bassa, Ankpa and Nasarawa Local Government Areas and other Bassa speakers areBassa Nge (also known asBassa Nupe.

Basa speakers also often speak theIgala language, theEbira language or theNupe language.^[1]
