Barracas Athletic Club was afootball club fromLanús,[1][2]Greater Buenos Aires,Argentina. The club was notable for having played several seasons inArgentine Primera División, the top division ofArgentine football league system.

Established in 1901,[1] the club debuted in Primera División in1902 after winning theSegunda División title one year before.[3] In its first season in the top division, Barracas A.C. made a good campaign, finishing 2nd. toAlumni.
The squad continued playing all the tournaments until 1907 when the team finished last and wasrelegated to the second division.[4] It is believed that Barracas A.C. was dissolved that same year.[5]
Uruguayan brothers Carlos and Bolívar Céspedes (considered football pioneers of that country, being part of theClub Nacional de Football that won its first titles inUruguayan Primera División) played for Barracas A.C. when they exiled from Uruguay due to the civil war of 1904.José Buruca Laforia, who was Barracas goalkeeper, gave his place to recently arrived Amílcar Céspedes, while he switch toforward position.
At the end of the war, the Céspedes brothers returned toMontevideo where they joined Nacional again. Nevertheless, in 1905 Carlos and Bolívar died ofsmallpox, at the age of 21 and 20 respectively.[6]
