Baron Clwyd, ofAbergele in theCounty of Denbigh, is a title in thePeerage of the United Kingdom.[1] It was created in 1919 for theLiberal politicianSir John Roberts, 1st Baronet,[2] who had previously representedDenbighshire West in theHouse of Commons. He had already been created aBaronet, of Brynwenallt in the parish of Abergele in the County of Denbigh, in theBaronetage of the United Kingdom in 1908.[3] Lord Clwyd's fatherJohn Roberts had earlier beenMember of Parliament forFlint from 1878 to 1892. As of 2016[update] the titles are held by his great-grandson, the fourth Baron, who succeeded his father in 2006.[4]
The title of the barony, Clwyd, is pronounced "Cloo-id".
