Barnaul Gherman Titov International Airport (Russian:Международный аэропорт Барнаул имени Германа Титова) (IATA:BAX,ICAO:UNBB) (sometimes referred to asBarnaul West orMikhaylovka) is a major airport inAltai Krai, Russia located 17 km west ofBarnaul. It contains large facilities and a remote tarmac, likely for military use.[1] The airport services airliners and helicopters of all sizes, including planes as large as theBoeing 747, and theIl-96.[2]
Barnaul Airport is named after Soviet cosmonautGherman Titov, anAltai Krai native who was the second human being (afterYuri Gagarin) to visitouter space.[3]

A new 7,000-square-metre (75,000 sq ft) international area and runway extension are planned, which will allow the airport to receive all types of aircraft without restrictions.
