Barak Ravid (Hebrew: ברק רביד) is anIsraeli journalist and aCNN political and foreign policy analyst.[1] He previously worked for Israel'sChannel 13 News.[2] He served in theIDF as an intelligence officer inUnit 8200.[3][4] He is also active in the English-language media, writing forAxios about Israeli politics.[5]
Ravid was born in the Israeli city ofKfar Sava. At age 18 he was drafted to theIsraeli army, serving in thesignals intelligence division ofUnit 8200.[6][7]
He earned aBachelor of Arts in Middle Eastern history fromTel Aviv University.[1] In 2007 he started working as a political pundit for the Israeli newspaperHaaretz.[8] In 2017 he started working for Channel 13.[9] He was dismissed in 2020,[10] and went on to work for Axios until 2023.[1][11]
In September 2014, Ravid came out against 43 fellow reservists of Unit 8200 who publicly refused "to take part in actions againstPalestinians and refuse to serve as tools in deepening the military control over theOccupied Territories".[7] He remained an army reservist until March 2023.[12]
In April 2024, Ravid won the White House Press Correspondents’ Award, which he personally received from PresidentJoe Biden.[13]
Ravid lives in theWashington, D.C. area, where he moved for Axios in 2023.[14][15] Previously living in Tel Aviv, he is married and has 2 children.[16]

A former analyst in Israel's 8200 signal intelligence unit, Ravid worked as diplomatic correspondent for the NRG website and later in the same position for Haaretz, which he swapped in 2017 for Channel 10. He now also writes for the U.S.-based Axios site.
