Banquo's Ghost (French:Le spectre de Banquo) is an 1854oil painting by the FrenchRomanticartistThéodore Chassériau. The painting features a scene fromWilliam Shakespeare'stragedyMacbeth.[1][2]
The painting features the moment in Act 3 Scene 4 whenMacbeth is confronted by the appearance of the ghost ofBanquo during a nightimebanquet.[3]
Chassériau submitted the work for theSalon of 1855 but it was rejected. It was acquired in 1939 by theMuseum of Fine Arts inReims.[4]
