Banquete (/bæŋˈkɛti/bang-KET-ee) is acensus-designated place (CDP) inNueces County,Texas, United States.Banquete is located at the intersection ofState Highway 44 andFM 666, 23 miles west ofCorpus Christi.[1] Banquete should not be confused withRancho Banquete, acensus-designated place situated several miles west of the community.
Banquete is a new CDP as of the2010 census with a population of 726.[2]
Banquete is located at27°48′2″N97°47′50″W / 27.80056°N 97.79722°W /27.80056; -97.79722 (27.800641, -97.797179). The CDP has a total area of 2.3 square miles (6.0 km2), all land.[3]
Banquete was named for a four-day feast honoring the completion of a road linkingSan Patricio, Texas, withMatamoros, Tamaulipas,Mexico. The community was also a stop on theTexas Mexican Railway,[4]and was also the place of Camp Charles Russell, a military camp to train CSA soldiers.
TheBanquete Independent School District serves area students.[5] Their latest[when?] graduating class consisted of 55 seniors.[citation needed]
Del Mar College is the designated community college for all of Nueces County.[6]
The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to theKöppen climate classification, Banquete has ahumid subtropical climate,Cfa on climate maps.[7]
