Ballymacward (Irish:Baile Mhic an Bháird)[1] is a village inCounty Galway, Ireland. It is on theR359 road, between that road and the rail lines traversing east–west. The village is 24 km (15 mi) fromBallinasloe and approximately 48 km (30 mi) fromGalway city. The village is in acivil parish of the same name.[1] It was once part of the kingdom of theSoghain ofConnacht.
Ballymacward lies 4 km (2.5 mi) north ofWoodlawn railway station. This station opened in 1858 and was closed for goods traffic in 1978.[2] It is on the mainIarnród Éireann Intercity line fromDublin to Galway, situated between Ballinasloe andAttymon halt stations.
