Bally is a neighbourhood inHowrah ofHowrah district in theIndian state ofWest Bengal. Bally is under the jurisdiction of Bally Police Station ofHowrah City Police. It is a part of the area covered byKolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA).[1][2][3]
Bally is located at22°39′N88°20′E / 22.65°N 88.34°E /22.65; 88.34 and also the northernmost part ofHowrah city.[4] It has an average elevation of 15 metres (49 feet). It is more elevated in the west than the east (where flows the Hoogly river), thus leading to a problem of water logging.[5] Bally is separated fromUttarpara, Hooghly, by Bally Canal (Bally Khal) at its north. A Bridge was constructed over Bally Canal in 1846 to join the two localities.[6]
An important transportation hub of Kolkata, Bally is connected toDakshineswar, Kolkata viaVivekananda Setu andNivedita Setu.State Highway 6/Grand Trunk Road andBelghoria Expressway also pass through Bally. From here, people can avail a number of buses to go toKolkata (viaVivekananda Setu),Howrah (viaNational Highway 16) andHooghly (viaNational Highway 19).
Bally also has three railway stations ofKolkata Suburban Railway. They areBally railway station (onHowrah-Bardhaman main line andHowrah-Bardhaman chord line),Bally Ghat railway station andBally Halt railway station (onSealdah-Dankuni line).
