Balin[ˈbalin] is avillage in the administrative district ofGmina Poddębice, withinPoddębice County,Łódź Voivodeship, in central Poland.[1] It lies approximately 12 km (7 mi) west ofPoddębice and 48 km (30 mi) west of the regional capitalŁódź.
Balin was a private village ofPolish nobility, administratively located in the Szadek County in theSieradz Voivodeship in theGreater Poland Province of the Kingdom of Poland.[2]
During the Germaninvasion of Poland at the start ofWorld War II, on 8 September 1939, German troops carried out a massacre of 21 Polish farmers in Balin (seeNazi crimes against the Polish nation).[3] During the subsequentGerman occupation, in 1942, the German gendarmerie carried outexpulsions of Poles, who were then enslaved asforced labour in the area.[4]
