Baena (pronouncedba-en-na)[2] is an extinct genus ofbaenidturtles that inhabited North America during theLate Cretaceous and earlyPaleogene.[3] The genus name is thought to originate from aNative American language, possibly theArapaho word for turtle,be’enoo.[2]
Fossils ofBaena have been found in locations includingKirtland Formation,CampanianNew Mexico (B. sp.) (Cretaceous) andRavenscrag Formation,MaastrichtianCanada (B. sp.) (Cretaceous).[4]
