BBC Radio Stoke is theBBC's local radio station servingStaffordshire and SouthCheshire.
It broadcasts onFM,DAB,Freeview and viaBBC Sounds from studios in theHanley area ofStoke-on-Trent.
According toRAJAR, the station has a weekly audience of 118,000 listeners and an 8.9% share as of December 2023.[1]
The station began broadcasting on 14 March 1968 asBBC Radio Stoke-on-Trent.
Both of the English counties the station covers have noBBC local radio station for their whole area. In Staffordshire, the south is covered byBBC Radio WM, and theeast byBBC Radio Derby. InCheshire, north-western areas are served byBBC Radio Merseyside and the north-east byBBC Radio Manchester.
The station broadcasts from its studios on Cheapside inHanley, the biggest of the six towns that make up the city ofStoke-on-Trent. There are also studios and offices inCrewe,Leek andStafford.
The current Managing Editors are Alistair Miskin and Tim Beech.
Radio Stoke transmits on 94.6 MHzFM from the 140 feet (43 m)Alsagers Bank transmitter, which is two miles west ofNewcastle-under-Lyme, close to theM6. The signal is clear in most of the area, except in some parts of theStaffordshire Moorlands (Cheadle in particular) andStafford (which has its own relay).
The 104.1 MHz FM frequency is heard in Stafford and the transmitter is on the roof of the County Education building in the town.
DAB signals come from theStoke & Stafford 12D multiplex from Alsagers Bank,Pye Green (nearHednesford),Sutton Common (betweenCongleton andMacclesfield inCheshire), and Tick Hill (strongest power, south-east of the junction of the A520 andA52 near theFoxfield Steam Railway betweenCookshill and Godleybrook). TheSideway transmitter is right next to theA500 D Road, just south of theA50 junction.
The station also broadcasts onFreeview TV channel 715 in theBBC West Midlands andBBC North West regions and streams online viaBBC Sounds.

The station's late show, airing from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., originates fromBBC Radio WM inBirmingham.
