Azteca is a strictlyNeotropicalgenus ofants in thesubfamilyDolichoderinae.[2] The genus is very diverse and contains around 84 extantspecies and two fossil species. They are essentially arboreal and many species havemutualistic associations with particular plant species, where the genusCecropia presents the most conspicuous association.[3] In the Brazilian Amazonia,Azteca species are associated with species ofCodonanthopsis.[4]
