Azar (Persian:آذر,Persian pronunciation:[ɒːˈzæɾ][1]) is the ninth month of theSolar Hijri calendar, the official calendar ofIran andAfghanistan.[1] Azar has thirty days.[1] It begins inNovember and ends inDecember by theGregorian calendar[citation needed]. Azar corresponds to the Tropical Astrological month ofSagittarius.
Azar is the third month ofautumn, and is followed byDey.[1]
The name is derived fromAtar, theZoroastrian concept ofholy fire.
