Avis Thayer Bohlen (born April 20, 1940)[2] is a diplomat and former Assistant Secretary for Arms Control (1999–2002)[3][4] andUnited States Ambassador toBulgaria (1996–1999).[5][6]

Life

Bohlen's parents wereCharles E. Bohlen, former Ambassador to theSoviet Union (1953–1957),[7] and Avis Howard Thayer.[2] She is a member of theAmerican Academy of Diplomacy[8] andCouncil on Foreign Relations.[9]
