Simone Alexandra Garcia Johnson (born August 14, 2001) is an Americanprofessional wrestler . She is signed toWWE under thering name Ava and appears as theon-screen general manager of theNXT brand .
Johnson is a fourth-generation wrestler, being the daughter ofDwayne "The Rock" Johnson , connecting her to theAnoaʻi family of Samoan origin.
Early and personal life [ edit ] Johnson was born inDavie, Florida ,[ 8] on August 14, 2001.[ 9] She is the first daughter of professional wrestler and entertainerDwayne "The Rock" Johnson (through whom she has two younger sisters from his second marriage)[ 10] andDany Garcia , a Cuban-American businesswoman,IFBB professional bodybuilder and producer.[ 11] [ 12] [ 13] Johnson's parents announced their separation on June 1, 2007[ 14] [ 15] and divorced in May 2008.[ 16] From her father's side, Johnson is the granddaughter of Ata (née Maivia) andRocky Johnson , aSamoan andBlack Nova Scotian respectively. Through her paternal grandmother, she is a non-blood relative of theAnoaʻi wrestling family .
In January 2018, Johnson was aGolden Globe Ambassador for the75th Golden Globe Awards .[ 17] [ 18] [ 19] [ 20] She attended theprivate high school NSU University School , where she graduated and earned herdiploma in May 2019.[ 21] [ 22] After graduating, Johnson had initially planned to take up hercollege studies atNew York University in August 2019, but when she suffered a knee injury a month prior in July, she decided to stay inOrlando, Florida , to pursue her professional wrestling career.[ 23] [ 24] She has cited her grandmother as the person who got her into wrestling.[ 25]
As of 2025, Johnson is in a relationship with fellow NXT performer Tatyanna Dumas.[ 26]
Professional wrestling career [ edit ] Training (2020–2022)[ edit ] In November 2017, Johnson expressed her interest in becoming a professional wrestler.[ 27] [ 28] In February 2020,WWE announced that Johnson had reported to theWWE Performance Center and had begun her training, making her the first fourth-generation wrestler to sign a contract with the company.[ 29] [ 30] [ 31] [ 32]
On the October 25, 2022, episode ofNXT , Johnson made her first televised appearance, revealing herself to be a member ofJoe Gacy 'svillainous faction,Schism .[ 33] [ 34] [ 35] She debuted under thering name Ava Raine , (later shortened toAva ) on February 14, 2023.[ 36] [ 37] Ava made her in-ring debut on April 1 atNXT Stand & Deliver with Schism, losing toChase University .[ 38] [ 39] [ 40] Schism would slowly begin to disband in September 2023, starting with the expiration ofThe Dyad 's contracts on September 14,[ 41] and culminating in a backstage segment in October where Gacy declared that Schism was dead.
General manager (2023–present)[ edit ] After Schism, Ava became the on-screen assistant of Senior Vice President of Talent Development CreativeShawn Michaels .[ 42] On January 23, 2024, she was promoted to become the newGeneral Manager ofNXT , becoming the youngest general manager in WWE.[ 43] Ava made her main roster debut appearance three days later onSmackDown where she assisted SmackDown General ManagerNick Aldis with theRoyal Rumble entry draw.[ 44] AtNXT Stand & Deliver on April 6, she announced the creation of theNXT Women's North American Championship as the equivalent to itsmale counterpart , making the title the first women's secondary championship in WWE.[ 45] On the March 5, 2025 episode ofEvolve , Michaels announced that Ava will be in charge to direct the newly revivedEvolve brand.[ 46] Three weeks later, Ava announced thatStevie Turner , her co-Assistant General Manager of NXT, will take on an additional role as the new General Manager of Evolve.[ 47]
