Australotadorna alecwilsoni is an extinctgenus andspecies ofbird, in theshelduck subfamily of theduck family, from theLate Oligocene of central Australia. The genus name comes from theLatinaustralis ("southern" or, derivatively, "Australian") andTadorna (a genus ofshelducks). The specific epithet honours Alec Wilson,pastoral lease holder of Frome Downs Station, who supportedpalaeontological access to, and investigation of,fossil sites on his property. Thetype locality is Lake Pinpa in theLake Eyre Basin of north-easternSouth Australia.[1]
