Austin Roy Kalish (February 3, 1921 – October 5, 2016) was an American producer and screenwriter.

Life and career

Kalish was born inThe Bronx, New York, the son of Helen and Milton, asalesman.[1] He attendedNew York University, and later served inWorld War II.[2] After World War II ended, Kalish began writing jokes for comedians.[1][2]

Kalish began his career writing forThe Martin and Lewis Show, with his wife,Irma.[2] They later collaborated on producing and writing for television programs, includingToo Close for Comfort,All in the Family,The Bob Newhart Show,Good Times,My Favorite Martian,Maude,I Dream of Jeannie,F Troop andFamily Affair.[3]

Personal life

Kalish was married toIrma Kalish from 1948,[1] They had a son, comedy writerBruce Kalish, and a daughter Nancy Biederman, who died in 2016 ofleukemia.[1][4]

Death

Kalish died in October 2016 at theMotion Picture & Television Fund cottages inWoodland Hills, California, at the age of 95.[1][2][5][6]
