Aurora Perrineau is an American actress and model. She is best known for starring asShana Elmsford inJem and the Holograms (2015), the live-action film adaptation of the 1980s animated television seriesJem, Giselle Hammond in Blumhouse'sTruth or Dare (2018), Tanya in Netflix'sWhen They See Us (2019), and as C in HBO'sWestworld (2022).

Life and career

Perrineau was born to actorHarold Perrineau and Brittany Robinson Perrineau, a former actress and model forTommy Hilfiger andLiz Claiborne throughout the 1990s.[1][2] At age 16, she signed as a model with Click Model Management, Inc.[3]

In November 2017, Perrineau filed a police report with theLos Angeles County Sheriff's Department accusing scriptwriterMurray Miller of sexual assault in 2012 when the actress was 17.[4]Girls creator-writer-actressLena Dunham initially defended Miller, who was a writer for the series, but later retracted her statements.[4] On August 10, 2018, theLos Angeles County District Attorney's Office declined to file charges against Miller.[5][6]

In 2012, Perrineau starred in thedirect-to-video filmAir Collision.[7] In 2014, Perrineau appeared in episodes ofNewsreaders[8] and inChasing Life as Margo.[9] In April 2014, it was announced that Perrineau was cast in the role of Shana inJem and the Holograms, based on the 1980s cartoon.[10] The film came under fire from fans of the cartoon, upset that the voice cast from decades earlier was not hired, with further complaints personally directed against the biracial Perrineau for not being black enough.[11][12]

In July 2014, Perrineau was cast inDrake Doremus's filmEquals.[13][14][15] The film had its world premiere at theToronto International Film Festival on September 5, 2015.[16] Perrineau had a small role in the filmPassengers, released on December 21, 2016.[17][18] In 2018, Perrineau was cast as Giselle Hammond in theBlumhouse supernaturalthriller filmTruth or Dare.[19]

In July 2025, it was announced that Perrineau will play the role of Chantal inEvery Year After, a series inpre-production that was first announced in 2024.[20]

From 2020 to 2024, Perrineau was in a relationship with fellow actorMichael Vlamis.[21]
