Notable Species

[edit]

Aurantimonas coralicida causes a white plague incorals.[3]

Fulvimarina pelagi was isolated from seawater, and takes the form of nonmotile rods.[4]Fulvimarina pelagi is an obligateaerobe, and obtains its nourishmentchemoheterotrophically. It tests positive foroxidase andcatalase, and containscarotenoid pigments, possibly to protect against solar radiation.

Etymology

[edit]

The nameAurantimonas derives from:Neo-Latinaurantus, orange-coloured;Greekmonas (μονάς), a unit; to mean an orange-coloured unicellular organism.[5]

Members of the genusAurantimonas can be referred to as aurantimonads (viz.trivialisation of names).

Phylogeny

[edit]

The currently accepted taxonomy is based on theList of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature (LPSN).[2] The phylogeny is based on whole-genome analysis.[1]
