Atomic Monster is an American film and televisionproduction company, founded on October 21, 2014 byJames Wan.[2] The company is known for producingThe Conjuring Universe andM3GAN franchises, as well asLights Out,Mortal Kombat,Malignant andThe Monkey.
James Wan founded Atomic Monster on October 21, 2014. The company has a first-look producing deal withNew Line Cinema andWarner Bros. Pictures.[3][2]
On August 12, 2016, the company reached a development deal with Chinese company Starlight Media Inc. to help finance films with budgets up to $100 million.[4]
On November 16, 2022, it was announced that the company was in talks to merge withBlumhouse Productions with the company having a shared first-look deal withUniversal Pictures. The companies would continue to operate as separate labels, with each maintaining its own creative autonomy and brand identity. The company is using the existing Blumhouse infrastructure to further scale their activities in film, television and new content areas, such as horror-related video games, live entertainment and audio.[5][6][7][8][9] On January 2, 2024, the merger was finalized.[10]
On June 4, 2025, it was announced that Blumhouse was in talks to acquireTwisted Pictures' stake in theSaw franchise, withLionsgate still being involved.[11] Later that month, the acquisition was finalized and the deal would have Wan andLeigh Whannell regain creative control for the future of the franchise.[12]
