Atka (Russian:Атка) is anurban locality (anurban-type settlement) inKhasynsky District ofMagadan Oblast,Russia, located on theKolyma Highway, 199 kilometers (124 mi) by road north of theoblast'sadministrative centerMagadan. Population:485 (2010 Census);[1]604 (2002 Census);[4]2,648 (1989 Soviet census).[5]
The sources of theYama are near Atka and theMaltan river flows northwards to the west of the town. TheMaymandzhin Range rises above the northern and eastern sides.[6] Atka is on the same longitude as theSydney, Australia, both lying on the151st meridian.
It was granted urban-type settlement status in 1953.
Atka has asubarctic climate (Köppen climate classificationDfc), with cool, humid summers and severe to extreme winters.
