Asumbuo (Asubuo in local orthography;Asumboa orAsuboa in some sources) is a nearly extinct language spoken on the island ofUtupua, in the easternmost province of theSolomon Islands.^[2]

Like the two other languages of Utupua (Tanimbili andAmba), Asumbuo belongs to theTemotu subgroup of theOceanic family, itself part of theAustronesian phylum.

With only about 10 speakers,^[1] Asumbuo is a highlyendangered language. Together with its neighbourTanimbili, it is currently beingreplaced byAmba (orNebao), the main language ofUtupua.
